Congratulations Rich M!
About Rich
Rich has been a nurse for over 8 years and while he enjoys the freedoms and flexibility travel nursing has offered him, he also loves to take local contracts in his home town of San Diego. He was happy to find that type of assignment with Mader to get him closer to home again. Some great advice he has given for other nurses is to trust in their own skills and be flexible and adaptable when it comes to traveling.

What inspired you to start travel nursing?
I have been traveling about one and half years, and I have been an ICU nurse for 8 years. Before I started travel nursing I was at my home facility for about 5 years and felt I needed to experience other ICUs to really expand my experience with differing practices and cultures within a critical care setting.

What is your biggest piece of advice to fellow clinicians interested in starting their travel journey?
The biggest advice I could give is to be flexible and adaptable and realize your previous standards of practice will be very different depending on which facility you land at. Trust in your own skills and fundamentals as a nurse.

What has been your favorite part about working in the San Diego area?
I am from San Diego and I definitely felt a little bit homesick when I was out traveling. Having a local contract is a nice way to experience different facilities while maintaining a home base within San Diego. Can’t beat the weather and atmosphere in San Diego afterall!

What has been the best part about working with Mader MedX?
The onboarding process was a pleasant experience. When I was having trouble attending the requested items, the staff was quick to assist me in making the onboarding as easy and painless as possible. I owe that to the teamwork of the onboarding staff. Lindy and Tiffanie have been very responsive with any questions I had.
