Take advantage of the weather and get outside
During the summer, San Diego’s temperatures can get hot, which is why the winter is a great time for outdoor recreation. You get all of the same beauty but without the intense temperatures. The Anza Borrego Desert State Park is a great hiking option, especially in the winter when the sun isn’t at full blast. Other great spots to get outside and enjoy nature include Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, Mission Trails Regional Park, and Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve!
Whale watching
San Diego has two whale-watching seasons, mid-winter/spring and mid-summer/fall. According to San Diego’s city website, from mid-December until April, more than 20,000 gray whales make a 10,000-mile round-trip from Alaska to the lagoons of Baja California where the females give birth to their calves. During this journey, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of these whales by sea or land!
